Growing Up in AFCECO
A music video about and by the students in AFCECO’s Leadership Program
Video produced and edited by AFCECO Students, Frishta and Negin
The Afghan Child Education and Care Organization (AFCECO) is an Afghan non-profit organization based in Kabul and fully registered since 2008 with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The founding director of AFCECO is Andeisha Farid opened her first orphanage or “parwarishga” in 2004 in Pakistan.
Andeisha saw the children begging for a few pennies to buy bread. She felt that if only a small number of these children could be raised as she was raised, their influence would reverberate in each family. In addition, she felt if these children were reflective of every race, every region, every tribe of Afghanistan and they were raised together equally, their influence would settle the inflamed passions of tribalism from one corner of the country to the other. And finally, she felt that if the girls were raised as she was raised, and the boys were raised as her friends had been raised, the symbol of this “culture”, the burqa, would become a thing of the past.
To help her implement her vision, Andeisha and her team developed a value system for AFCECO, which they teach to all their students. This value system also helps promote the development of a new generation of leaders to help re-build Afghanistan. For example, the management of AFCECO is entirely run by former students of this organization.
